adulta.Childhood obesity, linked to a sedentary lifestyle, and an unbalanced diet, seems like one of
the main problems of today's society. So much so, that according to the latest report from the
Spanish Society of Cardiology, almost 38% of Spanish children between the ages of 6 and 12
are obese or overweight, relating this fact to a greater probability of becoming obese adults.
at risk of obesity-related diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease or certain
types of cancer, among others.
Faced with this reality, Physical Education (PE) classes can play a key role, decisively
influencing students, so that they can develop healthy habits, based on a balanced diet and
physical activity, both within the school environment, as in other contexts. With the main
objective of identifying the factors associated with the development of healthy habits, several
studies were carried out, in the first of them, a systematic review was carried out, focused on the
study of the impact that factors such as the perceived satisfaction by physical education students,
learning strategies, their involvement in it, and the importance of developing critical thinking, as
determining variables in the development of healthy lifestyle habits. The study, carried out
through a structural equation model, to analyze the predictive relationships between the
study variables based on 2,439 high school students, reflected the importance of physical
education classes to influence and provide a series of resources , and crucial skills in the
adoption of behaviors related to healthy lifestyle habits, among students.
A second study, involving 1113 students, aged 9 to 12 years, aimed to analyze the
influence of parents and physical education teachers on basic psychological needs,
motivation and intentional eating habits of children. . To analyze the data, a structural
equation model (SEM) was used to analyze the influence between the variables. The
results revealed the important influence of the social context, determined by parents and
teachers, in the perceptive psychological development of young people, and in the
reinforcement of behaviors related to a balanced diet, based on the Mediterranean diet.
In the third study, in which 857 high school students participated, the objective is to
36
adapt and test the factorial structure of the PE-Grit (Guelmani, et al, 2022), in the context
of physical education classes, in the secondary stage, in order to have an effective tool
with which to evaluate the Grit, a construct made up of several factors, such as persistence
in effort, and constancy in interest, as an indicator and essential component of success
and the achievement. The results showed the PE-Grit made up of 16 items divided
between two factors: Physical Grit (physical interest and physical effort) and Academic
Grit (academic interest and academic effort) as a valid and reliable instrument to measure
emotions in a multidimensional way. physical education classes, processes that can guide
the teacher in his work to promote positive emotions towards the classes, minimizing or
eradicating the negative ones, which results in stimulating students towards the
achievement of healthy habits such as physical activity outside the school context.
In short, this thesis provides information about childhood obesity in Western societies,
related to the lack of physical activity in children, and an unbalanced diet, our results
affect the possibility of reversing the situation, through a motivating social context, and
teaching strategies by physical education teachers, promoting healthy lifestyle habits, as
prevention of the development of future diseases that are related to obesity in adulthood

Exploring dietary patterns in the southernmost limit of prehispanic agriculture in america by using bayesian stable isotope mixing models
The contribution of maize to the diet of prehispanic populations that inhabited Mendoza Province, the thensouthernmost limit of agriculture in America, has been largely debated. Recently, on the basis of d13C data, it was suggested that cacti may mimic the pattern of human isotopic values attributed to maize consumption in this region. These studies relied on a univariate qualitative approach not suitable for accurately identifying dietary contribution when multiple potential resources are available. Here, we analyzed published δ13C and δ15N data by using Bayesian mixing models to estimate the proportional contributions of different plants and animals to the protein component and total diet. The effect of different fractionation values on these estimations was also assessed. Our results pointed out the importance of C3 vegetables in the prehispanic diet of these populations and only a small contribution of maize in the later Late Holocene sample from North Mendoza. Fractionation values had a significant effect on diet estimation. Overall, our study highlights the importance of obtaining fractionation values for local resources and increasing the diversity of isotopes analyzed for both the consumer and the potential resources to get a better understanding of diet variation in this region.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse
Spatial regression techniques for inter-population data: Studying the relationships between morphological and environmental variation
Understanding the importance of environmental dimensions behind the morphological variation among populations has long been a central goal of evolutionary biology. The main objective of this study was to review the spatial regression techniques employed to test the association between morphological and environmental variables. In addition, we show empirically how spatial regression techniques can be used to test the association of cranial form variation among worldwide human populations with a set of ecological variables, taking into account the spatial autocorrelation in data. We suggest that spatial autocorrelation must be studied to explore the spatial structure underlying morphological variation and incorporated in regression models to provide more accurate statistical estimates of the relationships between morphological and ecological variables. Finally, we discuss the statistical properties of these techniques and the underlying reasons for using the spatial approach in population studies.Área Antropologí

Reproduction in Goats
Reproductive activity of the goat begins when the females reach puberty, which happens at 5 months of age. The ovarian or estrous cycle is the period between two consecutive estrus. It is also the time that lasts the development of the follicle in the ovary, until rupture occurs and ovulation takes place, which coincides with the appearance of estrus. This chapter will describe the physiological and endocrinological bases of estrus in the goat. Likewise, factors affecting the presence of estrus and ovulation will be described. At another point, synchronization of estrus and ovulation, factors affecting the presence of estrus and external symptoms of estrus, will be described. To achieve synchronization of estrus or induction of ovulation within or outside the breeding season, it may be necessary to manage light hours, male effect, and/or use of hormones. The importance of artificial insemination is described, as well as the current situation of this technique worldwide. Currently, the techniques of artificial insemination in goats have been limited worldwide, due to the lack of resources of producers and trained technicians. The techniques of artificial insemination with estrous synchronization programs and ovulation with current research results will be described

Differences between sliding semi-landmark methods in geometric morphometrics, with an application to human craniofacial and dental variation
Over the last decade, geometric morphometric methods have been applied increasingly to the study of human form. When too few landmarks are available, outlines can be digitized as series of discrete points. The individual points must be slid along a tangential direction so as to remove tangential variation, because contours should be homologous from subject to subject whereas their individual points need not. This variation can be removed by minimizing either bending energy (BE) or Procrustes distance (D) with respect to a mean reference form. Because these two criteria make different assumptions, it becomes necessary to study how these differences modify the results obtained. We performed bootstrapped-based Goodall's F-test, Foote's measurement, principal component (PC) and discriminant function analyses on human molars and craniometric data to compare the results obtained by the two criteria. Results show that: (1) F-scores and P-values were similar for both criteria; (2) results of Foote's measurement show that both criteria yield different estimates of within- and between-sample variation; (3) there is low correlation between the first PC axes obtained by D and BE; (4) the percentage of correct classification is similar for BE and D, but the ordination of groups along discriminant scores differs between them. The differences between criteria can alter the results when morphological variation in the sample is small, as in the analysis of modern human populations.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse
